The USD 489 Early Childhood Connections program is the recipient of a $500 donation from the Hays Med Center.
The $500 will be used to purchase health care literacy kits. The kits, which include a thermometer, first aid kid and the book, "What to Do When Your Child Gets Sick" help Connections parents better prepare to address the health needs of their children.
"For parents, health literacy can be the difference between a trip to the local drug store for a cold remedy and an emergency room bill for hundreds of dollars or more," said Connections Health Coordinator, Arielle Simpson. "The one-on-one training by our staff coupled with the health care literacy kits help our families avoid unnecessary emergency room or doctor visits."
The USD 489 Early Childhood Connections program provides services to 292 children ages birth through five. For more information about this program, please call 785-623-2430.
